DC6 Freighter Plane from 1988
DC6 freighter G-APSA was originally operated as a passenger aircraft by Southend-based British Eagle. Instone Air Line purchased it from Yemen Air, where it had been in open storage for several years. It was ferried from Sanaa to Southend where a major overhaul was carried out.
Originally it was intended to operate the aircraft to carry racehorses around Europe, but after the overhaul it was decided to use the aircraft for freight flights. These were mostly supplementing aircraft on contract to mail and courier companies, as well as carrying general cargo, including oil spares and car parts.
